Hands-on impressions collected independently from a Croma store demo unit. No brand involvement.
Summary
Vivo has launched the Y400 Pro 5G in India starting at ₹24,999.I tested the phone for about twenty minutes at a Croma store in Connaught Place, Delhi to see how it performs in real conditions.
Here’s what stood out in display brightness, camera behavior, software, and day-to-day speed.

First Impressions (From Croma Store Testing)
Launching a new ₹25,000 phone this year is tough. The Redmi Note 14 Pro, iQOO Z9 Turbo, and Samsung M15 series are already pulling attention.
Even so, the Y400 Pro makes a solid case.
Build and feel
The phone weighs about 190g and feels steady in the hand. The matte polycarbonate back isn’t slippery, and the Fest Gold colour looks restrained.
During testing, the in-display fingerprint scanner unlocked six out of seven times on the first try.
Real-world brightness
Vivo claims 4500 nits peak brightness. I stepped out of Croma’s glass entrance to test it.The display stayed readable in the afternoon sun, and auto-brightness took around one second to adjust when moving from shade to direct light.
Based on this quick check, it seemed to push close to 4000 nits outdoors.
UI smoothness
The Dimensity 7300 isn’t meant for heavy gaming, but it handled basics well.Switching between Instagram, Gmail, and YouTube felt smooth.
Instagram Reels loaded slightly slower than the iQOO Z9 Turbo demo unit kept beside it, but the difference wasn’t big.

Camera Test Results
(Camera behavior based only on my indoor and outdoor test shots.)
The Sony IMX882 main camera seemed to do most of the heavy lifting.
Indoor shots
Skin tones looked natural, and details were sharper than I expected for the price.
Outdoor colours
Colours leaned warm by roughly one step compared to the Redmi Note 14 Pro demo unit nearby.
They didn’t look cartoonish, though.
Low-light behaviour
Low light was mixed.
Some noise crept in around the darker corners of the frame, and the 2MP depth camera didn’t seem to add useful separation.
Video
The demo unit allowed 4K 30fps from both front and rear cameras, which is helpful for anyone filming Reels or short vlogs.Display and Performance
Display feel
The 6.77-inch screen feels big—close to phablet territory.
Scrolling on 120Hz looked smooth, and the touch response felt consistent.
Performance
General navigation was clean.
I didn’t notice major frame drops, though I only tested it for about twenty minutes.
Charging expectations
Retail staff at Croma said customers usually see a full charge within an hour using the included 90W brick.
I couldn’t test the charging myself since the demo unit wasn’t low on battery
Where It Falls Short
These are the limitations I noted or confirmed through official sources:
- No vapor chamber cooling, so sustained gaming might heat up.
- No headphone jack.
- Low-light photos are weaker than daytime shots.
- Competes with phones offering more raw power at the same price.
Who Should Buy It
Based on what I saw:
Good fit for:
- Users upgrading from older Vivo models like Y20 or Y50
- Shoppers who want a bright display and IP65 protection
- Anyone who prefers accurate front-camera video quality
Think twice if:
- You game for long hours
- You already own something like the Redmi Note 13 Pro or Moto Edge 50 Fusion
- You want the best night photography in this segment
Competitor Snapshot
Phone. One Clear Advantage
- Vivo Y400 Pro IP65 rating + Sony IMX882 camera
- Redmi Note 14 Pro Better sustained gaming performance
- iQOO Z9 Turbo Much faster charging
- Moto Edge 50 Fusion Best display quality in this range
Final Verdict
The Vivo Y400 Pro may not dominate sales charts, but there’s a steady audience for it.
It shines most in brightness, durability, and consistent everyday performance.
If you’re tired of heavy skins like MIUI or Samsung’s Exynos quirks, this feels like a clean, reliable upgrade.
