The Verdict: Don’t buy the Xiaomi 14T based on the spec sheet. Buy it because it’s a remarkably balanced mid-ranger that genuinely democratizes Leica optics provided you understand its thermal limits under the Indian sun.



If you search for reviews of the Xiaomi 14T right now, you are going to drown in a sea of AI-generated spec dumps. They will tell you it has 120W charging (it doesn't; that's the Pro). They will tell you it uses a Snapdragon processor (it doesn't; it's MediaTek). Some even claim the base 14T lacks Leica tuning.

That is categorically false.

Ignore that number completely.

The reality: The 14T has a manual slider maximum of 700 nits. When Sunlight Mode kicks in under direct UV, it utilizes High Brightness Mode (HBM) to hit roughly 1,600 nits. This is entirely adequate. However, what no one mentions is the thermal throttling. In our testing, under 35°C ambient heat, the device cannot sustain HBM for more than 4 to 6 minutes before aggressive thermal management steps in, dimming the display back down to ~800 nits to prevent panel burn-in.

At high brightness, the 14T uses standard DC dimming. But drop the brightness below 30% — like when you are doomscrolling in bed — and the phone switches to 3840Hz High-Frequency Pulse-Width Modulation (PWM) dimming.

Why does this matter? OLED panels control low-light brightness by rapidly turning the pixels on and off (flickering). Lower frequency PWM (like the 240Hz found on older iPhones) causes subtle visual banding and significant eye strain, even if you can't consciously perceive the flicker. By pushing the PWM to 3840Hz, the 14T effectively eliminates visual fatigue for light-sensitive users. The physics of charging: Fast charging relies on charge pumps, which generate substantial heat. When you plug the 14T into a 67W brick in a non-AC room during an Indian summer (ambient temps around 33°C), the battery protection circuits intervene. To prevent degrading the lithium-ion cell chemistry, the phone will aggressively throttle the wattage intake. In our real-world testing, a full charge in a warm room took closer to 62 minutes.
