Huawei Smart Memory Feature Expanding to More Devices in June 2026: Full Rollout Details

Following its successful debut on the Mate 80 Pro Max Fan Edition last month, Huawei has officially announced the expansion of its highly anticipated Smart Memory feature. Scheduled for a broader rollout in June 2026, the update promises to bring advanced memory optimization to eligible flagship and foldable devices.

Eligibility and Rollout Timeline

During the recent Pura 90 series launch event, Huawei detailed the roadmap for its proprietary HyperSpace Memory Technology. While the hardware requirements are strict, the rollout will prioritize the company's premium tiers.

Beginning in June, the Smart Memory feature will be pushed to the following devices via the HarmonyOS 6.1 update:
  • Huawei Mate 80 Series: All models will receive the feature via HarmonyOS version 6.1.0.117.
  • Huawei Mate X7: The latest premium foldable is confirmed to be the first in its category to receive the upgrade by June 2026.

Why Older Devices Aren't Supported

Users of older or different product lines will unfortunately miss out on this specific capability. Addressing compatibility, Huawei noted in an official statement:

"Due to differences in design specifications between different products, it is not supported. However, after upgrading to HarmonyOS 6.1, the product features a completely new and smoother Ark Engine, resulting in a more fluid system and smoother operations."

How Huawei's Smart Memory Works

For the devices that do receive the update, Smart Memory fundamentally changes how the phone handles background processes. The technology dynamically converts a portion of the phone's internal storage space into virtual RAM.

Coupled with an optimized memory compression algorithm, this expansion prevents aggressive background-app killing and allows for seamless multitasking. According to Huawei, this efficiency boost is so significant that users with 16GB of physical RAM will effectively enjoy a 20GB RAM experience.

Stay tuned as HarmonyOS 6.1 begins its staggered global rollout this June. Check your device's System Settings to ensure you have the latest firmware.
