If you own a device from the OnePlus 11 series or the company's first-generation foldable, here is everything you need to know about your device's software roadmap and what to expect from OxygenOS 17.

Devices Reaching Their Final Major OS Update

OnePlus's current software policy promises up to four major Android upgrades for its premium flagships, and up to three major upgrades for select mid-range or tablet offerings. Based on their respective launch software, the following devices will see Android 17 as their last major milestone:

OnePlus Open: Released in late 2023, OnePlus's critically acclaimed foldable launched with Android 13. Because it is guaranteed four major OS updates, OxygenOS 17 will be its final major Android version.

OnePlus 11: Like the OnePlus Open, the flagship OnePlus 11 launched with Android 13 out of the box. Following updates to Android 14, 15, and 16, the upcoming Android 17 release will complete its four-year major upgrade lifecycle.

OnePlus 12R: Positioned as a flagship killer in early 2024, the 12R launched with Android 14 and a promise of three major OS updates, capping its journey at Android 17.

OnePlus Pad 2: The brand's second-generation tablet also debuted with Android 14 and a three-year major update guarantee, meaning it will conclude its OS upgrades with Android 17.

What to Expect from OxygenOS 17

While OnePlus is still keeping the final design elements of OxygenOS 17 under wraps, the software will be built on the core foundations of Android 17. Based on current developer betas from Google, Android 17 is expected to introduce deeper on-device AI integration, enhanced battery optimization algorithms, and more robust privacy safeguards. OnePlus will layer its own proprietary OxygenOS features on top, likely continuing its "Aquamorphic" design language with smoother animations, enhanced multitasking capabilities for the OnePlus Open, and improved cross-device connectivity with the OnePlus Pad 2.

What Happens After Android 17?

If your device is on this list, there is no need to rush out for an upgrade. Reaching the end of major OS updates does not mean your phone or tablet is obsolete. All four of these devices will continue to receive regular bi-monthly security patches and bug fixes for at least one additional year after OxygenOS 17 drops. Your device will remain secure, functional, and fully capable of running the latest apps well into 2027 and beyond.
