OnePlus Set to Redefine Smartphone Experience with AI-Powered OnePlus 13s in India

OnePlus is gearing up to introduce its next wave of innovation to the Indian market.

The company announced today, May 28, 2025, that its upcoming OnePlus 13s smartphone will launch in India on June 5, 2025.

This new device will be the first to feature "OnePlus AI," a suite of generative artificial intelligence features aimed at creating a more personal and intuitive user experience.

The OnePlus 13s, described as a compact flagship, marks a significant step in the company's AI strategy.

OnePlus aims to move beyond isolated AI tools, focusing on what it calls "personal intelligence." This approach seeks to integrate AI deeply into the user's daily interaction with their device.

The ‘Plus Key’ and AI Plus Mind: A New Way to Interact

A central element of the new AI experience is the "Plus Key." This customizable hardware button will replace OnePlus's iconic alert slider on the OnePlus 13s.

Users can program the Plus Key for various shortcuts.

Its primary role, however, will be to activate AI-driven features, most notably "AI Plus Mind."

According to details shared by OnePlus and reported by The Indian Express, AI Plus Mind allows users to capture on-screen information like schedules, event details, or online content with a simple press or a three-finger swipe.

This information is then organized into a dedicated "Mind Space."

The AI can analyze this content, for example, by extracting event details from an image and adding them directly to the user's calendar.

Users will also be able to search their Mind Space using natural language queries.

Suite of Generative AI Features

Beyond AI Plus Mind, the OnePlus 13s will come loaded with several other generative AI capabilities. These tools are designed to enhance productivity, creativity, and communication.

AI VoiceScribe: This feature will allow users to record, get summaries, and translate calls or meetings. It will work within popular messaging and video conferencing applications.

AI Call Assistant: Launching first in India with the OnePlus 13s, this tool, integrated into the OnePlus Dialer, will provide automatic call summaries and real-time call translation.

AI Translation App: OnePlus is consolidating all its translation functions—text, live voice, camera-based, and screen translation—into a single, intuitive application.

AI Search: This will enable users to search for local files, settings, notes, and calendar entries using conversational language.

AI Reframe: For photography enthusiasts, AI Reframe will analyze photo scenes and suggest multiple creative framing options.

AI Best Face 2.0: Expected via an over-the-air (OTA) update later in the summer, this feature aims to improve group photos.

It can detect and correct issues like closed eyes or suboptimal expressions, even on photos taken with other devices, for up to 20 individuals.

Collaboration with Google and Emphasis on Privacy

OnePlus also highlighted its deepened partnership with Google. A significant part of the OnePlus AI experience will be powered by Google Gemini.

This integration will enable advanced contextual support across OnePlus's OxygenOS and Google's suite of apps.

Features like Gemini Live are expected to allow real-time AI interactions based on what users see through their camera or on their screen.

Addressing potential privacy concerns, OnePlus stated it is using a hybrid AI model. Sensitive data will be processed on the device itself using a Trusted Execution Environment (TEE).

For more computationally intensive tasks, OnePlus will use its Private Computing Cloud (PCC), an encrypted platform designed to keep user data secure during processing and transmission.

As reported by The Times of India, the company is emphasizing full compliance with regional privacy regulations, including those in India.

Availability and Market Positioning

The AI Plus Mind feature will debut on the OnePlus 13s.

It will later roll out to the wider OnePlus 13 series through a software update, with broader support for other OnePlus devices planned for later in the year.

The OnePlus 13s itself is powered by the reported Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC, as noted by sources like
FoneArena.

The OnePlus 13s is strategically positioned in the Indian market.

According to a report by Gadgets 360, OnePlus India CEO Robin Liu hinted that the device will be priced between the flagship OnePlus 13 and the more affordable OnePlus 13R, suggesting a price range of approximately Rs. 42,999 to Rs. 69,999.

This positions it as a premium offering for users seeking flagship performance and cutting-edge AI without reaching top-tier flagship prices.

The launch of AI-centric phones is becoming a key differentiator in the competitive Indian smartphone market.

OnePlus, with its strong brand loyalty and focus on user experience, appears poised to make a significant impact with these new AI capabilities.

Author's Opinion by Michael B. Norris (trendingalone)

The push towards generative AI on smartphones is rapidly becoming the next major battleground for manufacturers, and OnePlus's entry with "OnePlus AI" on the OnePlus 13s seems both timely and thoughtfully executed. India, being a massive and tech-savvy market, is a crucial region for this AI debut.

What stands out is OnePlus's emphasis on "personal intelligence" rather than just a collection of AI tricks.

The AI Plus Mind, integrated with the new Plus Key, could genuinely change how users manage information overload if it works as seamlessly as described.

The India-specific AI Call Assistant also shows a commendable focus on local needs, where language diversity can be a real communication hurdle.

The partnership with Google for Gemini integration is a smart move, leveraging a powerful existing ecosystem.

However, the real test will be in the user experience – how intuitive, reliable, and genuinely useful these features are in daily life.

Privacy is another critical factor, and OnePlus’s hybrid on-device/cloud model with a Private Computing Cloud appears to be a robust approach, though users will need consistent transparency.

Competition is stiff. Google's Pixel phones already offer strong AI features, and Samsung has also heavily invested in Galaxy AI.

For OnePlus to succeed, its AI features must not only match but also offer unique value propositions.

The pricing of the OnePlus 13s will be key; if it can deliver a compelling AI experience in its sub-flagship segment, it could attract a significant number of users looking to upgrade to an "AI phone" without breaking the bank.

The "Plus Key" is an interesting hardware innovation. While replacing the beloved alert slider might be controversial for some long-time OnePlus fans, if the Plus Key offers significantly more utility through AI integration, users might quickly adapt.

Ultimately, the success of OnePlus AI will depend on its ability to deliver on its promises of making smartphone interactions more efficient, creative, and, above all, personal.

The June 5th launch will be closely watched to see if the OnePlus 13s can indeed set a new benchmark for AI in its category in India.

OnePlus Pad 3 Launch Confirmed: Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, 3K Display, Big Battery Revealed

OnePlus Pad 3 Launch Confirmed: Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, 3K Display, Big Battery Revealed It was during a chaotic airport layover in early July when I first noticed how unwieldy most tablets still feel. A fellow traveler beside me was juggling video calls, PDFs, and spreadsheets on a device that looked cutting-edge but felt clunky. That’s when I remembered OnePlus was preparing to release its newest tablet - the OnePlus Pad 3. Fast forward a few weeks, and OnePlus has confirmed that the Pad 3 will officially go on sale in India this September.  While the announcement might sound like just another product launch in an already crowded market, the Pad 3 stands out - and not just for its specs.  With a blend of power, slim design, and meaningful software improvements, it signals how Android tablets are beginning to seriously challenge the iPad’s long-held...
